Saturday Panels
MY Harlem: NJMH celebrates its educators, Featuring Ray Carman, Tajah Murdock And Others
March 26, 2011

Education is a core component of the mission of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, so it stands to reason that we not only appreciate the educators who grace our events and share their knowledge, but that we take this Saturday afternoon to salute them. Our guests were both born and raised n Harlem.

Octogenarian Tajah Murdock is a legendary Apollo dancer who emphasizes education whenever she speaks, and who carries herself with dignity and sartorial style wherever she goes. She has shared her mature perspective with young people for the museum’s Harlem Speaks Education initiative on numerous occasions—adults and youth will both discover her ageless wisdom today.

Ray Carman, the President of the Duke Ellington Society, is a walking storehouse of knowledge about Duke, jazz, and life itself, and will share his educative insights also.

Spend a Saturday afternoon in the warmth of the Visitor’s Center of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem and witness and engage with these wise elders and others who know that education is the key to swinging to the future in style and grace.
