MARCUS STRICKLAND, Tenor & Soprano Saxophones
GEORGE COLLIGAN, Piano
LUQUES CURTIS, Bass
E.J. STRICKLAND, Drums

New York, NY—RMA and The Jazz Museum in Harlem will continue their successful concert series through the end of the year, with a series of  Friday-night all-acoustic jazz combo concerts.

The unamplified concerts are held Friday nights at 7 p.m. and are part of the array of activities centered around RMA’s hip K2 Lounge.  DJ and live music; exhibitions, discussions and cocktails; contemporary artist talks in the galleries; themed gallery visits led by RMA guides; and RMA’s CabaretCinema series are a sampling of the other events that compose the K2 Lounge.

The jazz concerts are curated by the Executive Director of the Jazz Museum in Harlem, Loren Schoenberg together with Director of Programming at RMA Tim McHenry and present a range of jazz interpreters – Wycliffe Gordon, Anat Cohen, Marcus Strickland and Uri Caine.

Each week the artists play a new work inspired by RMA’s current exhibition “Take to the Sky: Flying Mystics in Himalayan Art”.

Rubin Museum of Art 150 West 17th Street (corner of 7th Ave.)

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 day of the performance, and include admission to the Museum’s galleries. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 212.620.5000 ext. 344. Please visit www.rmanyc.org  for further details.

About RMA:
Rubin Museum of Art (RMA), the premier museum of Himalayan art in the Western world, was established in 2004.  In the short time since its founding RMA has been universally recognized by newcomers and connoisseurs alike for how it has showcased the “arts of the Himalayas and where they lead you”.  Through its collections and extensive public programming, the museum is both a resource to and a reflection of the diverse communities and heritages that live in or travel to the New York region.

The museum engages visitors through exhibitions, education and programming that invite a broad range of cultural and historical exploration.  On view at any one time are numerous exhibitions – large and small – that draw from the Museum’s permanent collection.   RMA also serves as a venue for traveling exhibitions, bringing to New York audiences such critically acclaimed exhibitions as Tibet: Treasures From the Roof of the World; Eternal Presence: Handprints and Footprints in Buddhist Art and the upcoming I See No Stranger: Early Sikh Art and Devotion.

About The Jazz Museum in Harlem
The Jazz Museum is four years into its community and educational programs, and is in the process of acquiring a permanent home in Harlem. Their very successful “Harlem Speaks” series is held bi-weekly in their Harlem offices. Please visit www.jazzmuseuminharlem.org for further information.
